Steve was born in Dallas, Texas in 1949 and lived in India between 1950 and 1968. He attended Seattle Pacific University and then Dallas Theological Seminary. In 1978 he and his wife, Judy (also a missionary kid, born and raised in Mexico) left for Sudan, Africa with the Wycliffe Bible Translators. 3 years later their young daughter was diagnosed with a virulent variety of cancer, which was considered terminal, and necessitated a return to the U.S. and treatment at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Tx. Against all odds, she was in the first tier of survivors for that variety of cancer. After 25 years with Wycliffe the Van Rooys took an “early retirement” to go into real estate full time. Besides being investors themselves, they currently manage around 300 properties for others. They have three daughters (Cammie, Stephanie and Amanda), two of whom are married and have given them 7 grand kids.
This site is a collection of Steve’s short stories and other writing. The stories are grouped based on their main theme including stories about growing up in India, stories about real estate, stories about their daughter, and odds and ends that don’t fit anywhere else. The links above will take you to a table of contents for each section.
